Descaling is essentially removing the minerals built up inside your coffee machine using a special liquid solution. It is important to descale your machine regularly to prevent your appliance from internal damage (which can void your warranty). We recommend using the Gaggia Descaler for your Gaggia Classic coffee machine.
Manual coffee machines give you full control of different components when it comes to espresso making. However, it takes careful attention and practice. If you want to relive the traditional barista ritual in your home, a manual machine is the best choice. Manual coffee machines have a steaming wand (also known as a 'pannarello') which allows you to heat and froth your milk to create the classic silky, milk texture.
Automatic coffee machines, on the other hand, delivers results quickly. It allows you to get espresso, cappuccino and other hot drinks with just a press of a button. There is usually an integrated coffee grinder which allows you to instantly make espresso in one go.
Traditional filters have been designed for those with greater manual skills and experience. The 'crema perfetta' filter is suitable for all skill levels and allows you to always produce an espresso shot with the perfect crema - as the name suggests. (Remember that it is necessary to use the nozzle disc when using the 'crema perfetta' filter.)
You can use both mineral or filtered water. Sparkling water should be avoided as it can have negative consequences on the dispensing process.
